TCJ assessment
The texture is the defining feature of this wine. It is remarkably rounded and composed on the palate, with white fruit providing the core while yeast and oak appear more as structural elements than dominant flavors.
Piante a Lapio is produced by Raffaele Pagano from Fiano grown around Lapio, one of the historic areas for the variety in Avellino. This particular bottling is especially unusual: the label identifies it as a blend of the 2014 and 2020 vintages, bottled in May 2023. Bringing together wines at very different stages of development provides important context for the combination of maturity, texture and freshness found in the glass.
Despite the complexity of its construction, the wine feels remarkably coherent. The developed elements never overwhelm the fruit, while the wood contributes to the structure rather than defining the wine. Excellent balance and texture make this a distinctive and very complete expression of Fiano.
