TCJ assessment

A straightforward red with a direct and uncomplicated profile. The wine is cleanly presented, but in this tasting it did not show the same depth or complexity as the more compelling wines of the lineup.

Ilun is produced by Gorka Izagirre in Bizkaiko Txakolina from Hondarrabi Beltza, the native red variety of the Basque Country. That makes the wine particularly interesting from a regional perspective, offering a red expression from a denomination much more commonly associated with white Txakoli.

The identity of the variety and its origin provide interest, but the wine itself remains relatively simple in this showing. A correct and accessible expression, without the additional dimension required to move it into a higher category.
