TCJ assessment

A fruit-driven Roussillon red, with an immediate sense of concentration. Blackberry sits alongside a clear chocolate character, while a subtle vegetal note provides contrast. Despite the intensity of fruit, the tannins are polished, giving the palate a smoother and more approachable structure.

Château de Jau is located in the Agly Valley in northern Roussillon, an area strongly influenced by its Mediterranean climate. The estate works with varieties traditionally associated with this part of southern France, and this Côtes du Roussillon Villages brings together Syrah, Grenache Noir and Mourvèdre, a classic combination for building fruit, structure and Mediterranean character.

The abundance of fruit is clearly the defining element. There is enough tannic structure to support that concentration, but the wine remains accessible rather than severe. Chocolate, blackberry and the light vegetal edge add some variation to a wine ultimately centered on ripe fruit and polished texture.
