A twenty-one-year-old bottle from Vigneti Massa reveals the texture and longevity that helped Walter Massa bring Timorasso back from near disappearance and give the Colli Tortonesi a new identity.

The colour had already moved well beyond youth. Deep gold filled the glass, while the bottle beside it carried a date that placed the wine close to the beginning of Timorasso’s modern history: 2005.

Yet the most convincing evidence of age was not the colour, and it was certainly not fragility. It was texture. Vigneti Massa’s Costa del Vento 2005 had developed an impressive physical presence, broad and layered without becoming heavy, mature without feeling tired. More than two decades after the harvest, the wine remained complete. Time had not simply preserved it. Time had revealed what the grape was capable of becoming.
