Burgundy Overtakes Bordeaux in Weekly Liv-ex Trade
Burgundy led weekly Liv-ex fine-wine trade with 29.3% of traded value, ahead of Bordeaux at 26.4%, as the 2023 vintage drove about 40% of Burgundy’s activity. The result confirms one week of market movement, not a permanent transfer of leadership between the regions.
Burgundy accounted for the largest share of value traded on Liv-ex during the reported week, moving ahead of Bordeaux. The ranking is confirmed; whether it represents a lasting change in the fine-wine market is not.
What happened
Burgundy became the largest regional contributor to value traded on the Liv-ex exchange during the reported week, accounting for 29.3 percent of activity and moving ahead of Bordeaux at 26.4 percent.
The shift was reported first in Liv-ex’s weekly market analysis and subsequently by Harpers. It describes transactions completed through one professional fine-wine exchange over a short period; it is not a ranking of all wine sales worldwide.
Liv-ex said Burgundy’s result was supported not only by established producers but by activity in recently released wines. The 2023 vintage represented around 40 percent of the region’s traded value for the week.
