Jérémy Cukierman has left Artémis Domaines to lead the Saint-Estèphe second growth. The appointment restores a position that Michel Reybier had held directly since 2017, changing the estate's governance without yet signalling a change in its wines.

**What happened**

Château Cos d'Estournel has appointed Jérémy Cukierman as chief executive officer. Cukierman confirmed that he is joining the Michel Reybier Group to lead the Saint-Estèphe estate, and Terre de Vins reported the appointment on August 31, during the 2026 harvest.

The title is important because it had been absent from the organization for almost nine years. Aymeric de Gironde left the position in 2017 to become chief executive of Château Troplong Mondot. Michel Reybier, who has owned Cos d'Estournel since 2000, then assumed direct leadership of the estate. Cukierman's arrival restores an executive role between ownership and the teams responsible for the property.

Cukierman moves from Artémis Domaines, where he had served since 2024 as director of communications and sustainability. That group owns nine properties, including Château Latour, Clos de Tart, Domaine d'Eugénie, Bouchard Père & Fils, Champagne Jacquesson and Eisele Vineyard. Before Artémis, he directed the KEDGE Wine School for six years. He became a Master of Wine in 2017 and received the Madame Bollinger Medal for his performance in the tasting examination.

**A change in governance, not yet in wine**

This is a concrete change in the way Cos d'Estournel is led. It is not, on the evidence available, a change in viticulture, winemaking or style. The estate has not announced alterations to its technical team, vineyard practices, selection process or commercial strategy. No new targets or investment program accompanied the appointment.

That distinction matters at a classified growth whose identity has been built over generations. A new chief executive can influence priorities, budgets and the relationship between vineyard, cellar and market. But the title alone does not show which decisions Cukierman will control directly or how his arrival will affect the work already carried out by the estate's technical and commercial teams.

The timing nevertheless gives the appointment more significance than a routine personnel announcement. Reybier has personally directed Cos d'Estournel since 2017\. Recreating the CEO position transfers part of that daily responsibility to an appointed executive and gives the estate a more formal management structure for its next phase.

**The estate has become more complex**

Cos d'Estournel is no longer only the historic second growth and its second wine. The estate also produces white wines and G d'Estournel from northern Médoc vineyards. In 2023, the Reybier family acquired neighbouring Château Cos Labory, a fifth growth with a 35-hectare vineyard, while stating that the property would retain its independence.

Cos Labory's official presentation says its team now draws on the expertise developed at Cos d'Estournel. The two estates remain distinct, but they share ownership and operate across adjacent terroirs on the hill of Cos. This creates a broader agricultural and managerial structure than the one Michel Reybier took over in 2000.

Because the two estates share ownership and their teams already collaborate, Cukierman's possible authority at Cos Labory is an obvious question. Neither he nor the group has defined it. It would be premature to present him as chief executive of the complete Domaines Reybier portfolio. What is confirmed is his appointment at Château Cos d'Estournel.

**An unconventional route to Bordeaux leadership**

Cukierman did not follow the most familiar route to the top of a Bordeaux estate. He has worked in wine retail, journalism, consulting, education, communication and sustainability rather than building his career only in vineyard or cellar management. At Artémis, he worked within a portfolio of historic estates across several regions and countries.

That range matters because leading a major wine estate now involves more than producing a successful vintage. The role can include climate strategy, environmental reporting, international communication, distribution and hospitality. Cukierman has worked across many of those areas.

It should not, however, be used to assign him technical responsibilities that have not been announced. A Master of Wine qualification demonstrates broad knowledge and analytical ability. It is not the same as being appointed technical director, vineyard manager or winemaker. The most revealing part of the appointment will be how his broad experience is integrated with the specialist knowledge already present at Cos.

**What is confirmed**

Jérémy Cukierman is the new chief executive of Château Cos d'Estournel. He succeeds a period of direct leadership by owner Michel Reybier, and the position had not been filled since Aymeric de Gironde left in 2017\. Cukierman has left his communications and sustainability role at Artémis Domaines.

Cos d'Estournel is a second growth in the 1855 Classification and has been owned by Michel Reybier since 2000\. The Reybier family also acquired the neighbouring fifth growth Château Cos Labory in 2023.

**What remains unknown**

The group has not published Cukierman's detailed mandate, the reporting structure beneath him or the precise division of responsibilities between the new CEO and Michel Reybier. His authority over Cos Labory and other Reybier wine properties has not been formally described.

There is also no announced change to the technical team, vineyard management, wine style, distribution or sustainability objectives. Any claim that the appointment begins a stylistic shift would therefore be speculation.

**TCJ View**

The most relevant fact is not that a Master of Wine will run a classified growth. It is that Cos d'Estournel has restored a chief executive role after nearly a decade of direct owner leadership.

Cukierman's appointment also reflects a broader definition of leadership in fine wine. His career links vineyard issues with education, sustainability, communication and international strategy. That combination may suit an estate whose history is established but whose responsibilities have expanded.

It is still too early to turn his background into a prediction. Historic estates do not need every new executive to announce a new style. They need leaders who can decide what should remain unchanged, what must adapt and how to protect the value of the vineyard without reducing heritage to marketing.

For now, the appointment transfers responsibility without announcing a new direction for the wines. Its importance will be measured through future vineyard priorities, the development of Cos Labory and the decisions made when preserving the existing model conflicts with the need to adapt it.
